Chapter Seven

Now this was where he wanted to wake up every morning. Sunan moaned and stretched, luxuriating in the warmth that surrounded him.

“Merry Christmas, my love,” Hamish murmured in his ear.

The “warmth” sounded wide awake. “You’re a morning person, aren’t you?” Sunan moaned, trying to snuggle deeper into the covers.

“It’s the best time of the day. No one is around. You can get so much done.”

“Yeah, like sleep.” Sunan thought that was a really good idea at this point.

“You’re not a morning person, are you?” Hamish sounded amused, not guilty.

“You noticed, thank you. Goodnight.” Sunan prayed he’d listen and just snuggle back down.

“Come on. It’s nearly six o’clock, and we’re still in bed.” Hamish sat up, pulling the quilt from Sunan’s shoulders.

“‘Nearly six o’clock.’ I don’t even know what that means, Hamish,” Sunan said as he tried to wriggle down under the sheets. Hamish laughed, grabbed the quilt, and pulled it completely off the bed.

“I’ll go put the kettle on and meet you in the shower in five minutes.” With that, Hamish jumped out of bed and headed downstairs. Sunan admired his firm backside as it disappeared down the stairs without a stitch on. Obviously, there were some things that Hamish was definitely not shy about.

Sunan sat up against the headboard and tried to wake up. He was sure it was still the middle of the night. Hell, it was still dark outside. He could hear Hamish pottering about in his kitchen. With a little luck and a gentle push, it could be their kitchen. He loved the castle and being part of the Kashmerle Pack, but snow leopards were solitary creatures, and although he didn’t want to be alone, the idea of him and Hamish sharing a home would be lovely.

Footsteps pounded up the stairs. “Not exactly delicate, are you? Especially for a cat,” Sunan said as he stood up and wrapped his arms around his lover.

“Hey, give me time. Me and my beastie are just getting acquainted,” Hamish huffed.

“I know you are a feline, but which species?” Sunan asked. Maggie was Native American, but that could still mean a variety of species. None of the pack had seen her shift, as she did her full-moon run away from the castle.

“I’ll be a black jaguar,” Hamish said quietly.

“Oh hell, that is so amazing. Do you know how rare and special that makes you?” Sunan had honestly thought that black jaguars no longer existed.

“Yeah, I know my mother was disowned because she bonded with her spirit walker who was human and, heaven forbid, Scottish. The tribal elders wanted her to breed with another black jaguar, to extend the species.”

“God, they sound like my mother.”

“Time for our shower, I think,” Hamish said, this time wriggling his eyebrows. Sunan smiled. “I was kind of hoping we could do some, er, interesting things in there,” Hamish said, grinning suggestively.

Sunan smiled and wriggled his eyebrows back at Hamish as he chased Sunan into the bathroom.

* * * * As Hamish watched the water cascade over Sunan’s skin, he felt his beast stir inside him.
